Donna Civitello, a partner in the firm, came to practice
workers' compensation law as the result of her own
experiences as an injured worker. Because of her
commitment to issues involving workplace safety, and her
extensive work in that area, she has been recognized as
one of the leading workers' compensation lawyers in
Connecticut. She has since 1995 been selected by other
lawyers for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America.
She is also listed in The Outstanding Lawyers of
America, and The Martindale-Hubbell Bar Register of
Preeminent Lawyers, both on the basis of peer reviews of
her ethics and her legal abilities.
She has lectured throughout the state and the nation on
workers' compensation issues to doctors, occupational
health professionals, lawyers, claimants, insurance
representatives, students, and union members. She is the
author of the book Injured on the Job, A Handbook for
Connecticut Workers (1992). For many years, Donna has
been an editor of Compensation Quarterly, an
instructional periodical for lawyers who practice
workers' compensation law in Connecticut. As a member of
the Standing Committee on Workers' Compensation
Certification she helped to create the procedure by
which lawyers are certified as well-qualified
practitioners in the area of workers' compensation. In
2005, she became a member of the Examining Committee for
Certification. In this role she helps to draft,
administer and grade the examinations of those lawyers
who are seeking certification as experts in the field of
workers' compensation law. She also has served as a
member of the Legal Advisory Committee to the
Connecticut Workers' Compensation Commission since 1999.
In addition to her workers' compensation practice, Donna
also represents claimants in Social Security disability
claims. She is presently serving her second term as Town
Counsel of Beacon Falls, Connecticut, where she
represents the Town in a wide variety of legal matters.
Donna was born in Waterbury, Connecticut and grew up in
Woodbury, Connecticut. She graduated in 1978 from Yale
University, and obtained her law degree from the
University of
Connecticut in 1986. She was admitted to the Connecticut
Bar in 1986, the U.S. District Court of Connecticut in
1988, and to the Third Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals in
1994. She has served as a volunteer on many local
boards and commissions, including the Inland Wetlands
Commission of Bethany and the Zoning, Charter Revision,
and Rural Preservation Commissions of Southbury. She is currently working hard to
preserve open space and family farms as a Trustee of the
Southbury Land Trust. In her spare time Donna is an avid
gardener, dancer, quilter and backpacker. She is married
to her partner, Bob Carter.
